I love the series and this is a wonderful holiday addition. This is action packed but the small package of a category romance Brockmann spends as much time on the romance as she does the larger plot. The heroine is wonderful and Crash changes to believe that love is necessary. Their love story will really warm you up!
Opening line: "It was only two days after Thanksgiving, but the city streets were already decked with wreaths and bows and Christmas lights."Well this was another excellent instalment from Brockman’s Tall Dark & Dangerous series. Here with this 6th addition we get Billy “Crash” Hawken’s story and jeez did I ever fall hard for him. A member of “grey group” (who occasionally work alongside SEAL Team 10) Crash is aloof, loyal to a fault and oh so sexy in his secretive, lethal sort of way. He’s a ma...
Thanks to Buggy for recommending this book! This was my first foray into Suzanne Brockmann’s Tall Dark & Dangerous series, and it certainly won't be my last. (The cool thing is that "Harvard's Education", which I think is #5 in the series, also came in the ebook package I bought for my Nook). When Buggy mentioned that a hot uniformed man was imprisoned for murdering his commander, I knew this book was right up my alley! Some things I really enjoyed:* Nell's character. She had a softness about her...
It is simply amazing how Suzanne Brockmann manages to make the characters so interesting, to give us so much insights in their lives, their feelings, well enough to make myself sorry to leave them at the end of the book, while managing at the same time an investigation about who's the mysterious bad guy. All of that very successfully, in under 250 pages. The first part is extremely affecting, when we share with Nell and Crash the last days of Daisy. Both main characters are perfect and perfect for...
Everyone knows Brockmann is one of my favorite authors so I won't re-mention what a master craftsman she is with the written word. This book is one of her best. I still think "Letters To Kelly" is numero uno, but this book ranks a close second. Crash and Nell are both such deep characters. They're strong, yet vulnerable and flawed, tough, yet sensitive, as well as honorable, passionate, and amazingly unique. The story is hanging-by-a-nail intense. This is one of those books I wish I could re-rea...
This book was sooooo good!!! I was only halfway through it before I started planning on reading it again immediately after I finished it. A wonderful, magical, heart-warming story...lots of depth of emotion here and the fact that it was set during Christmas made it even more perfect. LOVED this book! It is the 2nd book located in the newly released Tall, Dark, & Devastating book by Suzanne Brockmann. The original book was released in 1998 and is 6th out of a series...that I think goes to 11 book...
Feeling all loved up now xxxx
There are three main reasons to buy this book: 1) Suzanne Brockmann wrote it, so you know it's going to be good; 2) it IS a great story, and 3) both Ms. Brockmann and MIRA are very up-front about this book being a reissue of one of her previous releases. Originally published in December 1998 as IT CAME UPON A MIDNIGHT CLEAR, the story has lost none of it's originality, sensuality, or action/adventure. The story revolves around William "Crash" Hawken, a member of SEAL Team Twelve who gets framed
Book #6 - It came upon a midnight clearThis is probably, after Prince Joe, my favourite...Certain part had me in tears!! My heart ached for the characters!A very well writing and moving story.Once again I borrow the review of another, as others have the ability to put into words what I feel and wants to say, but lack the words.Buggy:"Navy SEAL Crash Hawken is the prime suspect in the assassination of his commanding officer. Charged with treason, conspiracy and murder he’s been stripped of his co...
Third time reading.Yep! Still going strong. I skipped the action-packed resolution, but the romance and the hero and heroine are still worth the 5 stars. And since I'm rereading my favorite books and have already downgraded three former 5-star reads, I'm very happy to be able to keep a few. -----Just finished this book for the second time and it totally blew me away. This is, in my opinion, the best one of the entire series. The tension is so thick all through the book and the emotions are raw a...
Something Worth Fighting For As Christmastime settled quietly over the countryside, Navy SEAL William "Crash" Hawken was faced with a deadly conspiracy. And he had only one person to turn to -- the caring passionate Nell Burns. For though Crash had long ago accepted the fact that there was no place in his dangerous world for the simple pleasures of home and family, Nell had been the only woman who had ever tempted him to dream of another kind of life... Now, as he needed Nell more than ever befo...
I can't help but compare this book to the story of Cosmo from the TS series (Hot Target). Both men were considered silent by nature, found the woman of their dreams and opened up. The difference is that Crash's journey is much more believable than Cosmo's was. I also liked Nell much more than Cosmo's Jane...she was tougher and and more personable at the same time. I read this book under its reprint version called Hawken's Heart (a much better title than the one Brockmann's publishers talked her
3.5 Stars!
Two-haiku review:She's an assistantTo his cousin who raised himHe hides emotionAwesome beginningBest of this series so farNeedn't have read rest
I enjoyed this book so much. It was fast paced and a perfect blend of romance and action. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series!
Gabby is at it again. I love this character! The story starts with odd occurrences happening with Christmas decorations around town. Then evolves into Gabby investigating in her quirky way to finally end up solving the mystery. This is a quick read. It has interesting twists. A hint of romance with Gabby and Riley but the romance isn't quite started yet.
I love the flow of this story. The characters are wonderful and the romance unfolds slowly. There are action/suspenseful parts, but the characters are the story. There are some sad parts, but the book is very enjoyable!
The H is a complete mess and cannot get past himself. The h was a solid person and put up with a lot. The constant head negative babble takes up a lot of the story and I found myself skipping quite a bit. Still like the series and am looking forward to reading the next.
Half of this book is a flashback, and the topic is a little depressing. However, the romance has chemistry, and the story is compelling. Definitely worth reading, especially since it sets up the situation for one of the later books.
A sweet holiday themed story in this series. I kind of think of this one as a Hallmark Movie Special or at least it could be one. This is another quick and happy read. Great to wrap up in a cozy blanket with hot chocolate by a warm fire place. I burned right through this story too.
First half of book was quite boring. I Liked second half though it was more action packed, I think hero was celibate during the year separated but wasn't stated. Np.
Short easy read. OK story.
Author: Suzanne BrockmannFirst published: 1998Length: ~3825 kindle locations, 251 pagesSetting: Contemporary.Sex: Infrequent. Varies from explicit to door half-closed.Hero: SEAL.Heroine: PASomewhat schizophrenic.~ The first half of the book surrounds Christmas 1 year past, when Nell and Crash met under difficult circumstances (that have nothing to do with being a SEAL). A purely romantic storyline, relationship driven.~ The second storyline is the SEAL/suspense bit as they try and determine who
4/5 stars..
Intensely emotional and sexy readNavy SEAL Billy "Crash" Hawken was practically raised by his cousin Daisy and her common-law husband, Admiral Jake Robinson, after his mother died when he was ten years old, and his uncaring father neglected him. In his adult life, he is closer to them than anyone on earth. Then he learns that Daisy has an inoperable brain tumor. Getting through the tragedy of Daisy's last days on earth is made both more difficult and more bearable by living under the same roof w...
I'm not gonna lie. I picked this up because I'm a huge Jake Robinson fan ever since reading my first Brockmann, The Admiral's Bride. This book shows Jake and his first wife Daisy shortly before her death due to cancer. The story is primarily Daisy and Jake's 'surrogate' son, William "Crash" Hawken's story but the former couple do play a pretty big part in his life, not to mention the driving suspense of the story. The book starts out with a bang as Crash is blamed for the murder of Jake. Although...
This book was kind of different, different in a good way. At first I didn't know what t think of it, because it felt so disconnected from the books before, I wasn't even sure if it was the right one, but word by word it won me over.I did like the fact that you thrown right into the plot and I was actually wondering how the story would go, when we got thrown back into past. Huge flash forward and all we get is the journey to the events in the beginning, but then we got thrown back into the presen...
5 Stars! ~ From the time Billy aka Crash was ten years old, he looked up to Jake, the man who married his cousin and took him in as a son. Billy followed in Jake's footsteps becoming a Navy SEAL, and now is part of the Gray Group under Jakes command. When Billy unknowingly leads assassins into Jake's home, Billy is framed and on the run for treason and murder. Nell was big part of Billy's life while she helped nurse Billy's cousin, Daisy through her battle with cancer. She was the only one that
Hawkin's Heart I love reading these books close together as it gives insights into characters and situations, you would have normally forgotten if any significant time has elapsed between reading the different book. Getting into the head and heart of her characters is something that Suzanne Brockmann is exceptional at doing. The emotions that all human beings have can be deadly for a SEAL on a covert mission. In Hawkin's Heart William "Crash" Hawkin decides to keep his emotional armor well in pl...
Updated 8/13/19: Borrowed via Audible Escape & DNF due to the narrator’s constant inflection at the end of nearly every sentence. Will go back to reading it myself.*** Also titled “Hawken’s Heart”The first 50% is a little slow and basically mostly romance, but a necessary groundwork for both the last half and the following book. This is one of my favorites of the series ~ Brockmann is wonderful here with balancing flawed but strong characters and weaving a lot of story together in a way that kee...
