I am writing a book on a slightly different aspect of Gettysburg, and I wanted to read some children's books that are out there to see what's been written. I have to say that this one is JUST BRILLIANT. It is so full of interesting information, but it presents it in such an accessible, understandable way that I am in awe. And the writing is just super--absolutely fascinating from the first word to the last. The only thing I didn't like is that I fear like there is no way I can come close to doin...

One of a six-volume set, this is a nicely done synopsis of the Battle at Gettysburg and what happened in the weeks that followed. Introducing the key soldiers on both sides and showing the battlefield strategies, it will surely hold students' interest. Generously illustrated with photos, maps and drawings, this is a great resource for 4-6 graders studying the Civil War - or 3rd and 4th grade boys obsessed with battles :>)
